Roots and Mysteries: The History of the Castle

Foundation and Fame

The origins of this impressive castle date back to the 12th century, and it is mentioned in the Molina Charter, so its origin we can say is from an Arab fortress.

In the 16th century it remained one of the strongest castles in the kingdom, which amazed everyone because of how difficult it was to access, the ingeniousness of its entrance and the capacity to house more than 500 men, although due to its size it may not seem like it. . It is said that there may have been caves carved into the rock that allowed it to increase its capacity both in housing men and resources.

Carved partly in the red sandstone that makes up the Sierra de Caldereros, it represents a good example of a rock castle located in an area that is difficult to access, taking advantage of the orography of the place.
