Los Aguanares Observatory: Natural Exploration North of Gallocanta

To the north of Gallocanta, is the Los Aguanares Observatory, accessible by car from the town of Gallocanta, through a marked track with indications of PR. This observatory, built at ground level with cement, is strategically located next to the area known as Gallocanta lagoon. Its greatest attraction occurs during the spring, especially if the Lagunazo has water, providing opportunities to observe wading and marsh birds.

Access to the observatory is marked by a row of tamarisks, planted to avoid disturbing the birds. However, extreme caution is recommended both during access and within the observatory itself. To the left of this simple building, you can see a small pond that collects excess water from local springs. This pond, of low salinity, encourages the presence of reeds and serves as a drinking fountain for numerous birds.

A step away from the lagoon

During the spring migratory passage, when the lagoon has little water, this watering hole becomes a key point to observe a significant variety of waders, and it is not uncommon to find some ornithological rarity. On the right side of the observatory, saline meadows extend, highlighting the presence of Puccinellia pungens, a species with a very limited distribution in Spain and classified as endangered.

This observatory is presented as the ideal place to explore the Gallocanta Lagoon. In its surroundings, you will find interpretive panels of routes and trails, as well as a convenient parking lot, offering a complete experience for lovers of nature and bird watching.
